Google has been getting into the referral game, with enticements for users to download Firefox and join AdSense; now, publishers can offer advertisers the chance to join AdWords and create an ad for that publisher's site.
There's something new on the bottom of Google ad units. It's a link titled "Advertise on this site" and leads advertisers to join Google and enroll in AdWords. Ads created at the Google Onsite Advertiser Sign-Up can then be targeted for site where the advertiser clicked the link.
Search Engine Watch wrote about the new service when testing started on it in April. It's a feature advertisers have wanted for some time.
On Google's information site for the program, the company noted how advertisers would reach a landing page from the link, create an AdWords account, and make an ad targeting the publisher's site.
Publishers can customize the landing page with their logo, color scheme, and a message to the prospective advertiser. Site-targeted ads will be bid for on a cost-per-impression basis.
Google wrote that the ads they create will compete with all other site and content-targeted ads that could appear on the publisher site, which should mean higher revenue for the site publisher.
