Carat Americas CEO David Verklin told Reuters that Google wants advertisers to only use its tools to manage search campaigns conducted on Google's network.
With the Reuters Media and Advertising Summit running at full-speed in New York, numerous media and ad executives have spoken about various issues concerning online advertising.
Google's name came up, naturally, and in an interview available at the Summit's website, Verklin shed light on Google's discussion of charging an extra fee to advertisers.
Verklin discussed some talk within Google to charge additional for advertisers who don't use Google's campaign management tools. Using Google's tools to run AdWords campaigns would still be free.
"That's a concern we would have and we hope it doesn't go there," Verklin said. "(W)e would like to manage all the search engines off of one software platform. We'd like to make sure Google continues to allow us to do that."
"We need a system that's interoperable with all the major search engines," he added. It seems likely Verklin will get his wish, as Carat Americas has over 350 major advertising clients and bills some $6 billion in media business annually.
